300 Miles of History

During the summer of 2007 author and historian Roger Fulton will travel more than 300 miles by canoe from Albany, New York to the 1000 Islands and Lake Ontario to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War. Traveling in 1750’s clothing, his travels will take him up the Hudson River to Lake George and Lake Champlain along the historic waterways of New York where French and British forces fought for control of the American Colonies. He will then travel up the St. Lawrence River to Lake Ontario as so many adventurers and soldiers did in the 17th and 18th centuries to open up the expanding territories of North America.
All along his route Mr. Fulton will stop at each interested town and village along the way to conduct lectures, historic presentations and media photo opportunities. His presentations may be as simple as an “arrival” by canoe for the local media; or may be as elaborate as a formal fund raising presentation for a local or county historical society. All “events” will be along the historical theme of the French and Indian War and its impact on the development of The Colonies, and the development of the United States and Canada.
This trip is slated to be done in segments starting on or about June 23rd and continuing throughout the summer until finally culminating back at Fort Edward on September 21st, Mr. Fulton’s 60th birthday. All plans are tentative at this time but will be finalized as the dates draw nearer.
